Longer Life for Hybrids – When Does My Hybrid Car Need an Oil Change?

Like any other vehicles, hybrid cars also need their oil changed from time to time. In fact, hybrids are not so different from regular gas powered vehicles, and you’ll find that many of the components and maintenance related issues of the former are also present in the latter. But are oil changes required just as often in the case of hybrid vehicles?

Experts would respond to that question with a resounding “no.” While hybrid cars have gas powered engines, the fact that they also use electric motors and, in some cases a remarkably efficient Toyota hybrid battery, takes some of the strain off the engine, so that it doesn’t have to be pushed so far. Essentially, if you have a hybrid car, the engine will perform less often than in the case of a gas powered car, so oil changes, just like filling up the tank, will no longer be needed so often.

The hybrid system doesn’t go through nearly enough wear and tear for oil changes to be needed too often, and you’ll find that time between oil changes can be lengthened to about 5,000 to 10,000 miles in the case of some of the best vehicles.

So if you don’t drive too often, you won’t need to worry about buying oil and spending money at the auto shop so often. The result will be that you can save more money while keeping your hybrid car working perfectly well for a long time to come.
