Hybrid car batteries are large, special battery
packs that are usually warranted for around 100,000 miles or 8 years, whichever
comes first. However, the longevity of your hybrid battery is determined by
lots of factors – here are some:
-
The number of times the
battery is recharged – A Toyota hybrid battery is rechargeable, but not endlessly.
The time will inevitably come when they won’t charge or they won’t charge
completely;
-
Proper recharging – letting
the battery go down to under 20% before connecting it to the charger or
recharging it to 100% every time shortens the life of the battery. To make the
most of your battery, always keep its charge level between 20% and 80%;
-
Driving style – erratic driving,
with lots of quick take-offs followed by short, heavy braking also weakens the
hybrid battery. A more balanced driving style, slower take-offs, more gentle
braking and the usage of cruise control protects the hybrid battery pack and
lets it live longer;
-
Getting a used battery –
though the Toyota hybrid battery pack is among the sturdiest, longest-lived components
of hybrid cars, if you decide to buy a second-hand battery pack, you must be
prepared that it might not work for the same amount of time as a new one would
and there is no way to know how and how much the battery pack was used before.
